Unstoppable Richardson takes Qualifier

Updated: Nov 28, 2022

On Saturday, players from across the UK descended on Middleton Arena in Manchester, to battle it out for more ranking points and qualification spots.

The northern qualifiers was a chance to earn more ranking points on route to next year's National Championship.

We were also greeted by three new players looking to learn, have fun and get competitive. The format was group and knockout, with the top two from each group advancing into the semi finals.

With Adam Sanderson and Matthew Richardson topping their groups respectively, they advanced with only Sanderson dropping one round through his group stage. They were both met by the own team-mates, Daniel Lilley and Joshua Hiser.

The semi final between Team Sneaks Sanderson and Lilley was a thrilling 2-1 victory to Sanderson (9-21, 21-18, 21-18).

It was the Bury Baggers team-mates with Richardson taking out Hiser (21-0, 21-6).

Hiser and Lilley played out a 3rd place playoff with Lilley coming out on top 2-0 (21-12, 21-6).

The Final (First to 3) - Despite Matthew Richardson having a couple of round scares during the day from Geoff Vaughn and Daniel Lilley he managed to compose himself and once again not lose a round all day.

A fantastic player with great technique but players are getting closer, maybe the next tournament they can take a round from him.

Sanderson played well all day and started the first set well picking up 5 point early on but Richardson just hit another gear and whitewashed the next two sets, Adam will be gunning for him next event in January - Final score 3-0 (21-5, 21-0, 21-0).

Congratulations to Matthew and thank you to all that competed. We will see you in January.

Order of merit table here.
