Tom Allen: Quiet Precision with a Killer Slide Shot

Don’t let the calm demeanour fool you—Leicestershire’s Tom Allen has quietly become one of the UKCL’s most reliable precision throwers.

A primary school teacher by day, and father of two, Tom leads a packed life. Between his family, his career, and training for an upcoming charity triathlon (involving running, cycling, and swimming), it's remarkable he finds time to compete. But every Tuesday night, you’ll find him on the boards at Ashby Baggers Cornhole Club, delivering one consistent slide shot after another.

Tom entered the UKCL scene in Season 2, making his singles debut at Bury St Edmunds in February. Since then, he’s steadily built his tournament resumé, including a 17th-place finish in Qualifier 1 this season.

Known for his dry sense of humour and humble outlook, Tom is often quick to downplay his performances. Ask him about his best games and he’ll likely deflect. Ask his club mates, and you’ll get a far more enthusiastic response.

One performance he does admit fondness for? A 13th-place finish at the Season 2 Doubles Championship, where he teamed up with friend and fellow Baggers player, Dale Unwin. Their chemistry and shared approach to the game made them a fun watch—and a tough pairing to face.

As for the upcoming Tier 2 Nationals, Tom remains grounded:

“The goal is not to embarrass myself,”

he jokes. But given his rock-solid mechanics and tournament experience, that humility might prove to be his opponents' mistake.

If his trademark slide shot starts hitting early, Tom Allen could be a dark horse ready to make a serious run.
