Michael "Babz" Babler: From Air Force to Air Mails

Michael Babler — known across the UKCL circuit simply as “Babz” — has proven that discipline, focus, and a fierce throw translate just as well from military service to competitive cornhole. The U.S. Air Force serviceman, stationed at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk, has quickly established himself as a rising force in the league — earning both respect and results in his second UKCL season.

Based in Beck Row, where he lives with his wife Ruby, Babz is part of a growing number of American service personnel who have found community through the sport, playing regularly with the Bury Baggers Cornhole Club. His UKCL journey began in March 2023, and while his first event in Bury St Edmunds saw him finish joint 33rd, his return to the same event one year later told a very different story.

With a year's experience, sharper technique, and growing confidence, Babz surged through the bracket to claim a 5th-place finish — his best result yet — only falling to two of the UKCL’s top talents: Alistair Pettitt and Daniel Lilley.

Big Moments, Big Shots

One of Babz’s most cherished victories came not in singles, but in doubles, when he partnered with Solent’s Dave Morey in the ACO UK Doubles Competition. Together, they notched a statement win over the formidable Pettitt brothers — a match Babz proudly counts as his top competitive performance to date.

Yet, his most iconic moment might be one of pure showmanship. During a fun challenge at the same event, Babz stepped up for the longest airmail attempt, landing a stunning 55-foot airmail against Matthew “Panda” Barrows — a shot that had everyone talking.

Known for his aggressive “bully shot” playing style, Babz brings a physical edge and strategic grit to every match. As the Tier 2 National Championships approach, his goals are clear — secure a podium finish, and cement his name among the UKCL’s elite competitors.

Whether he’s serving his country or sending bags flying with surgical precision, Babz is a competitor through and through. From Air Force to airmails — this is only the beginning.
