Final qualifier does not disappoint

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

Players from all over the UK descended to the Park Sport Centre in Oxford.

This was the final qualifier to reach the National Championship in July, so players was coming with their "A" game and it did not disappoint.

Due to the league not having seeded draws until next season, the live draw produced some crazy groups, notably Group C which saw four PRO players (Richardson, Vaughan, Edmonds and Lilley) being drawn together.

The top 3 from each group went through to the bracket stage. the bottom two players statistically would battle it out for the eight spot.

The group winners were Davies, Vaughan and the impressive Jerad Neusch.

Jonathan Chivers overcame Tony Gavan to make the bracket stage where he would meet Graham Davies in the last 8. This match was crazy!

Chivers took the first game with Davies taking the second. The decider looked to be a dominating one from Davies getting to 19-2 up but Jonathan found stamina and skills to snatch the game 19-21.

Other last 8 games saw Lilley come back from behind to take a 2-1 win over Jerad Neusch.

Bury baggers Richardson and Hiser battled it out with Matthew defeating his fellow clubman 2-0 and Mark Schindler was taken out by player of the day Geoff Vaughan 2-0.

Earlier in the group stage Lilley defeated Lilley 2-0 but revenge was confirmed as Daniel flipped the score line around to reach the final.

Richardson also took his Semi final game against another club member Chivers 2-0.

The final between Richardson & Lilley was anticipated to be a close game due to the fact the PPR's between 8.1-9.4 they was producing throughout the day and that Daniel won a game against Matthew in the group stage and lost his second by only one point.

But it was Matthew that took the final 2-0 (21-10/21-8) and finished the season rakings in first place, seeded him top for the Nationals on July 22nd.

Take a look at the two matches from them below.
