Officially retired, but rarely at rest, Mike Gregory is a man who thrives on balance—between family, leisure, and competition. Though he refers to his current work as a “very part-time job,” Mike still manages to help people both save and make money. But it’s the rest of his week that truly defines his pace: golfing, walking, travelling with his wife Sally, and making memories with family.

And on Tuesday nights? There’s no debate—he’s at Ashby Leisure Centre, bag in hand, ready to play.

A Family Affair Turned Club Leadership

Introduced to cornhole through family connections, Mike didn’t just become a regular player—he’s now the Chairman of the Ashby Baggers, where his leadership and steady presence have helped solidify the club’s welcoming reputation.

He’s particularly fond of doubles nights, appreciating the camaraderie and social energy of the team format. That team spirit carried through last season when he partnered with his son Ben Gregory in the UKCL Doubles Championship, adding another chapter to the Gregory family’s growing cornhole story.

Respectful… But Ruthless with a Blocker

Mike’s calm and respectful presence on the boards is backed up by sharp competitive instincts. His signature move? A deceptively effective blocker shot—the kind that frustrates opponents and shifts game momentum. So good, in fact, it’s earned a reputation as “annoying”… in the most complimentary way.

He’s made his mark in both club play and national competition, with a 16th place finish at Qualifier 2 last season among his proudest UKCL achievements. He also finished 4th in the Seniors division at the ACO Birmingham competition—proof that his game holds up against elite opponents.

Steady Goals for Nationals

When asked about his expectations heading into Nationals Tier 2, Mike keeps it characteristically modest:

“To try my best and be proud of my performance.”
