Just eight months after picking up his first set of cornhole bags, Kev Penny is preparing to make his mark at the UKCL Nationals — and his rapid rise within the UK Cornhole League is a testament to both his analytical mindset and passion for learning.

Based just outside of Portsmouth, Kev joined the UKCL community in February 2025 and represents the fast-growing Solent Cornhole Club, whose blue jerseys have become a staple on the national circuit. Nationals will be just his third competitive UKCL appearance, but he’s already gained a reputation as a calm, consistent, and tactical player who’s not to be underestimated.
From CTO to Cornhole Competitor
Away from the boards, Kev brings strategic thinking to his day job as Chief Technology Officer for an IT firm — a role that has clearly influenced his approach to cornhole. He’s methodical, patient, and always looking to learn. That mindset extends to his personal life too, where he coaches his son’s football team and cheers on Portsmouth FC as a devoted season ticket holder at Fratton Park. A passionate live music fan, Kev’s eclectic collection of vinyl records and CDs is another reflection of his wide-ranging interests.
Big Moments, Bigger Goals
Kev’s progress has come fast. One standout moment was beating club co-founder Jared Neusch during a Solent club night — a result that turned a few heads. Another came at Qualifier 4, where he went toe-to-toe with UKCL veteran Jon Wishart, outscoring him over the first 14 rounds of their match. While the final result didn’t fall his way, it was a clear signal that Kev can hang with the best.
Looking ahead to Nationals, Kev is keeping his goals realistic but focused:
“I just want to build on what I’ve learned at Q4 and climb the rankings,” he says. “And I’ll be right behind all my Solent teammates, hoping we can see some of us land on those podiums.”

With steady improvement, a level-headed game, and strong support from one of the league’s most active clubs, Kev Penny is quietly shaping up to be one of this year’s Nationals dark horses.
