Craig Smith: Scotland’s Silent Threat Eyes Tier 2 Glory

Cornhole may not be the first sport you associate with high-octane adrenaline—but for Craig Smith of Fife, Scotland, it’s become the perfect balance to a life already packed with thrills.

A dedicated motorsport enthusiast, Craig lives with his wife Angela and son Byron. Weekends are often spent trackside, from two-wheeled sprints to karting circuits, where Byron continues to rack up lap records. It’s a fast-paced family lifestyle—but when Craig discovered cornhole, the gears shifted toward a new kind of competitive drive.

Craig celebrated his 47th birthday by entering his first UKCL event in Manchester in 2023, diving into a sport that gave him and Byron a chance to compete together. While school commitments and the long journeys from Scotland have kept his tournament count low, Craig’s impact on the league has been anything but minor.

In fact, his Tier 2 status at this year’s Nationals feels almost surreal. Why? Because his resume is stacked:

  • UKCL Doubles Champion (with Jon Stynes)

  • ACO Pro Status at both Manchester and Birmingham events

  • Joint 5th-place finish at ACO Birmingham, defeating none other than UKCL’s then-top-ranked Daniel Lilley

International experience that could qualify him for the ACO World Championships

Craig is known for his technical mastery—a strategic blocker who uses push, cut, and roll shots with surgical precision. His style disrupts opponents and turns the tide of close matches, often without flash—but always with execution.

Despite his undeniable ability, Craig remains humble heading into Nationals:

“I just want to throw bags with friends—no hopes or expectations, just to have fun.”

But make no mistake—his rivals know exactly what he brings to the boards. With the experience, composure, and title-winning pedigree already under his belt, Craig Smith may just be the most dangerous Tier 2 player in the draw.

One thing is certain: underestimate him, and you’ll be watching him climb the podium.
